Dr. John V. Winters

John Winters joined the faculty of the Department of Economics in August 2018. His interests in the economics of education, entrepreneurship, and regional economic development fit the needs of Midwest Markets and Entrepreneurship exceptionally well. His first years at Iowa State have been extremely productive.

He has been named president-elect, Southern Regional Science Association, April 2020 – April 2021 and is on the editorial boards of the Papers in Regional Science (Editor), Growth and Change, Research in Higher Education, Review of Regional Studies, and the Journal of Regional Science.

He was the 2018 recipient of the Geoffrey J.D. Hewings Award from the North American Regional Science Council and has rapidly established himself as one of the most prolific scholars of his age with over 45 academic journal articles since receiving his doctorate in 2009.

Professor Winters has continued to develop his research agenda spanning four of the program’s targeted research areas, entrepreneurship, education policy, taxation and growth, and thin markets.
